The 2013 hwy101musicfest is shaping up to be a really great show this year, with all the back breaking work being done on the Pender Harbour Lions Park it will be worth the drive just to see the difference, the whole park is really starting to take shape and when spring time comes it will be so beautiful there you won’t want to leave. Now, put that with the line up of entertainers we are putting together and it should prove to be an extraordinary event. There will be some of the same bands that were there last year, so for those of you who did not make last year you are in luck and for those of you that were there, you already know how great it was. Trama will be back again after last years great show, the Trooper and Stonebolt tributes and so many great cover tunes, truly one of Vancouver’s top party groups we are so pleased to have “Trama” back again. “Toy Zebra”, yes yes yes without a doubt the high point of the 2012 festival was “Toy Zebra”(«and by the way I made that very prediction before the festival even started») sharing the stage even with some pretty accomplished players such as Chilliwack, “Trama”, even the great Redd Volkaert, these young guys rose to the occasion and put out a great performance so you don’t want to miss this show no no no. “Sinmobile” a local group that started the whole thing off last year will be back again this year as well, Irene Orello the lead vocalist for “Sinmobile” and her partner and excellent guitarist for “Sinmobile” Mike Soper, have both been very helpful in putting this years festival together and we sure do appreciate there help and great to have “Sinmobile” back again with there original music, come and check them out, I really dig there stuff. On the Country side we are looking forward to the return of Trio Grande, the country crooner Henri Crevier and his gang will be here again and we can’t wait, always tons of fun with these guys around so be prepared. Jess Lee will be back as well, last year was the reunion of the “Midnite Rodeo Band” and it was cool seeing so many players from back in the 80’s all reminiscing the old times, lots of laughing going on backstage let me tell ya.........
There will be more local acts performing at the festival this year which I think is always a good thing, to promote local talent, something we will continue to do as time goes on and more local talent is brought to our attention.
HWY101 is proud to present one of Pender Harbour’s own. The return of Alan Moberg “The Salt Water Cowboy”. Alan Moberg is a very accomplished singer/songwriter with many albums and awards to his credit, who grew up and
learned to play and sing in Pender Harbour, this guy can really yodel. For more on Alan Moberg go to www.alanmoberg.com and check out some of his you tube videos like “Salt Water Cowboy”.
Another very talented local act.........Kaia Nielsen and Mark Lebbell like to call their music Canadicana, drawing inspiration from non traditional roots cover tunes, their repertoire includes tales of trucks and trains, love lost and found bears and leaf blowers, all held together with little “Bits of String”. Together with Ken Dalgliesh and Graham Walker, they make up the “Bigger Bits Band”, and deliver a heapin helpin of harmony, houmor and hip shakin country grooves.
Hwy101 is excited to have the “Bigger Bits Band” playing the main stage this July 21st.
Dan Sheppard, a really good friend of mine who lived in Gibsons for many years unfortunately passed away about fifteen years ago, of course it was a very sad time for his family and for everyone that knew him. Dan was a fiddle player and a very talented performer and entertainer he played in a lot of cool bands,”Sugarfoot” was one I remember in Vancouver and what a great band they were, Dan also worked with”Pied Pumpkin” and of course “Azulejos” a group from the sunshine coast that he played with for many years. Dan was truly one of a kind, a great sense of humour and fun to work with, he will always be remembered with fond memories. Dan left behind his wife Denise and twin daughters Mira and Angie, fortunately for all of us Mira and Angie have followed in there fathers footsteps. Calling themselves Dan’s Daughters they have been playing together, busking at the mall in Sechelt, these girls have not only developed there skills as players but they write there own tunes, sing and harmonize together so well, they really are something special to hear. I had the pleasure of listening to them at Roberts Creek hall a couple of weeks ago and was so impressed and happy to have them playing the hwy101musicfest this year. I have also invited them to Desolation Sound Studio to come and record asap so hopefully we will have something to offer soon. We are excited to have these girls on board with hwy101.
The line up for hwy101musicfest for 2013 is now coming together fast and as our headliners are signed we will have it on this site, it won’t be long and we will have a full list of the 2013 line up so keep checking to see, I know you will be as excited as we are when you all find what else we have in store for you, talk soon.................
